TOP THINGS TO DO ON YOUR STAYCATION
The term “staycation” refers to someone who decides to take off time from work to enjoy life in their local town.
Enjoy things right under your nose: a week before you plan to take staycation, keep your eyes open for special events, parks and other attractions right around your own town.
Dine at your favorite restaurants or try out a few new local hot spots with the money you saved from vacationing in your local area.
Pamper yourself at the spa and get a relaxing massage.
Stay at the Quality Hotel Vancouver-“The Inn at False Creek” a full service boutique style hotel conveniently located in downtown Vancouver. We’re only minutes away from major city attractions and activities. The hotel also has a seasonal outdoor heated pool, free access to Fitness World, lounge and restaurant.
Avoid doing house chores and answering the door for salespeople.
Avoid the craziness at the airport and long line up at customs.
Call a few of your friends who may be off during the day or visit an old friend during their lunch break.

All work and no play makes us all very dull.
The management staffs at the Quality Hotel Vancouver - "The Inn at False Creek" and the Summerland Waterfront Resort in Summerland BC, met in late October to take a break from the office and re-energize, re-group and re-coup from the busy summer season. The two day event provided an opportunity for staff members to team build with one another and develop creative ideas on how to communicate, problem solve and tackle daily routine in innovative ways.
The weekend included a session with motivational speaker, Anita Bakker, and exercises with Ellen Walker Matthews who had us building towers out of newspaper! We visited a winery, had dinner at Vanilla Pod where we all decided we loved their 'Sushi Pizza' and of course visits to the onsite spa 'Beyond Wrapture'. The highlight was the 'Appetizer Cookoff' contest where staff members from each hotel were paired together to create magic. The delicious and unique Tomato Towers created by Jason and Michelle, unfortunately did not get the respect they deserved. Apple Pie, the all time classic was the crowd pleaser that night! Congratulations to Leslie and James.
Some of our best ideas came to us after the wine, as you can see.
Please check out the Summerland Waterfront Resort to plan your Corporate Retreat.

Thursday January 1, 2009 is the date of the 89th Annual Polar Bear Swim.
The Vancouver Polar Bear Swim Club is one of the largest and oldest Polar Bear Clubs in the world. Its initial swim was in 1920 when a small number of hardy swimmers took the plunge into English Bay on New Year's Day. Led by their founder, Peter Pantages, the swim has grown from around 10 swimmers in that year to the record number of 2,128 official entries in 2000.
Today, the swim takes place at 2:30pm on the first day of each new year. Costumes and the Peter Pantages Memorial 100 yard swim race are the highlights of this event. To be a club member you must register before the swim. Registration takes place in front of the English Bay Bathhouse from 12:30pm - 2:30pm each New Year's Day. You may also register by clipping out the coupon in the Province Newspaper and presenting it at the registration desk the day of the swim. Your free membership includes a commemorative button after you take the plunge. Prizes will be drawn from the entry forms filled out or turned in from the Province newspaper at the Swim registration table.
See you there!
